Ta Ta to tatty heads! Tangle Teezer review

I have a confession... I stole this idea from my 4 and 7 year old nieces!!
When I spent the weekend in the Lakes with my favourite mini Me's I pinched their Tangle Teezer to use as I couldn't find my brush, I presumed that it was just a gimmick for kiddies tatty hair but I was totally amazed at how much I enjoyed using it! It glides through all types of hair (dry or wet) and is totally safe to use on hair extensions. It minimises hair breakage, sleeks out your hair and is painless to use, this is especially good news for those of you with little ones with long locks.
I love the fact that it is a new concept, that is funky to look at and is ergonomically easy to use, with it moulding into the palm of your hand.
I bought mine from Sally's for about £8.00 (at a VAT free event) but you can pick them up in stores like Boots for approx £10 and they are available to purchase online also. (Check out www.tangleteezer.com for stockists)
Mine is a shocking pink colour, which makes it very difficult to lose! It's extra fab as it can easily be washed in warm water and left to dry, therefore remaining hygienic and lasting longer than your ordinary hairbrush.
I have spotted really cute cupcake versions of the Tangle Teezer which I think I will be treating my nieces to soon and perhaps maybe one for myself also!!

NEW: YSL Voluptè Sheer Candy Glossy Balm

Woop Woop!! The top of shopping list today... YSL Voluptè Sheer Candy! I am très happy that I am now the proud owner of shade 4, which is a sheer pink, ubèr glossy and tastes like mango. I have been eagerly awaiting its launch ever since Sephora teasingly sent me an email announcing its release in the US (Please bring Sephora back to the UK.. PLEASE!)

I have ditched my lipsticks and glosses of late for these wonderful combinations, everyone appears to be doing them Chanel, Dior and now high street brands. YSL have launched 6 shades that cost £21.00 each, while they appear VERY bright in the tube they are less noticeable and glide on like a balm. I like this as it adds a slight tint with lots of moisture so it's perfect to wear to the office.

The highlight of this product for me is the packaging... I hold my hands up and declare that I am a consumerist! YSL very rarely disappoints in the packaging department, this balm comes in a silver metal lipstick case which gives it a heavier weight and has the signature YSL symbol circulating the outer tube. It literally screams expensive, sophistication and glamour. I do like the simplicity of Chanel packaging, as if to state 'We are Chanel and we don't need to try', but who doesn't love a bit of glamour?

Yves Saint Laurent I salute you for another amazing must have item, it shall live with its family members Touche Eclat and Mascara Volume Effect Faux Cils in my everyday make-up case.

Lets get naked!

If there is one eyeshadow palette which I literally could not live without it has got to be my recent duty free purchase in the form of the Urban Decay 'Naked' palette.

Sitting in a long chocolatey velvet case lies 12 sumptuous caramels, golden bronzes and smokey brown eye shadows in matt and shimmer finishes.

It is perfect for me as I tend to stick to these colours as they suit my skin tone and can be used for day to night looks. They are really pigmented and easy to blend, the added bonus with this set is that you get Urban Decay's iconic primer potion which holds the shadow in place all day long. The palette also contains a mirror and brush, which makes this a great choice for travel.

All the colours compliment one another and can be combined for different looks. I love using 'Virgin' the lightest shade as a highlighter, 'Buck' for a natural brow and 'Creep' (Black shot with glitter) to line the lashes.

Here is the look I went for today

What I used;

Naked & Half Baked - All over lid
Hustle- Smudged into top lash line into crease & under lower lashes
Virgin- Highlight under brow & inner corner

MAC fluidline in Dipdown- top lash line into flick and outercorner lower lashes
MAC Powersurge eye kohl- water line
Dior Skin Flash 003- conceal under eye
YSL Mascara Volume Effect Faux Cils- Lashes
Tools

Shu Uemura eyelash curlers
MAC 239 (lid) 214 (crease & lash line) 219 (Inner socket & highlight) 217 (Blend) 209 (liquid liner)

They had their make-up done to reflect a particular era or theme and then unfortunately for them, were subjected to the torturous photo shoot... thanks again girlys!

D.I.Y Shellac Removal

If your too busy, too lazy or simply too broke to visit the salon and have your shellac (works for gel and acrylic false nails also) removed, then here is my quick and easy cheap skate guide to doing it yourself!

First off you'll need the following items;

SHOPPING LIST

1. Acetone- you can purchase a small bottle at most pharmacies for a couple of pounds, you may need to ask at the counter as its a restricted item due to it being used for dodgy things!

2. Cotton Wool balls

3. Tin foil cut into 10 strips (for each nail)

4. Wooden orange stick/hoof

3 Way Buffer for shine!
5. Emery board/nail file

6. 3 way buffer board

OPTIONAL:
I also like to give my nails a mini manicure at the end so I have cuticle oil, OPI Nail Envy (or alternative treatment nail varnish) and hand cream

Step 1. Soak cotton wool ball with some Acetone, place on top of nail. (If removing Gel or Acrylic nails, buff the top of the nail slightly with a rough nail file to help the Acetone work faster)

Step 2. Place finger on top of tinfoil strip, fold across one side, fold the front part back, then finally fold the other side across. It will then be secure and look like a foil bauble on the end of the finger.

Step 3. Do this to each nail, then leave for 10 minutes. I find it easier to do one hand at a time!

Step 4. After 10 minutes gently pull down the foil  bauble on the first nail done. Using your wooden orange stick with the slanted edge scrape from the cuticle towards the tip to see if it comes away. If it is not, then put the bauble back on and leave it for a few more minutes.

Step 5. If it comes away scrape the shellac into the open foil like step 4, making sure you only push in that same one direction.. not backwards  and forwards up to the cuticle, or else this will weaken and/or damage your nail.

Step 6. When it is all scraped off, take another clean cotton wool ball and soak it with a little of the Acetone. Wipe at the nail (like you do whan taking off nail varnish) just to remove any leftover bits.

Step 7. Repeat this with each nail, the file the ends to neaten the nails.

Step8. Your nails will feel a little thinner and rougher, but the bare in mind the Shellac has given the illusion that your nails were thicker. A bit like when you take your false lashes off and feel baldy! This is why I use the 3 way buffer, to make your nails look more even and shiny. Buff the top of each nail following the 3 way buffer directions and voile you should have nice, tidy de-shellac'd nails.

It's at this stage that I carry out my own mini-mani, whilst it's lovely to get back to the salon and have someone do this for you, it's very simple to do yourself and you can save the cash for your next Shellac appointment or new polish purchase :)
